Outdoor log furniture must be able to withstand changes in weather conditions. Changes in humidity and temperature can easily destroy a piece of furniture if it’s not properly treated or made from the right materials. Because of this, it is important to purchase the right outdoor furniture if you want it to last.
Cedar is generally considered the ideal material for outdoor log furniture. Its dimensional stability helps keep the furniture from cracking and splitting with changes in humidity. Furthermore, the naturally occurring oils and compounds within the wood also make it extremely resistant to insect damage as well.
Other types of wood can be used for making outdoor log furniture, provided it is properly treated. Many woods need to be adequately sealed in order to prevent cracking due to changes in humidity and temperature. These sealants will occasionally need to be reapplied in order to be continually effective.
